Elverado-Trico Falcons

The Elverado-Trico Falcons look to stay out of the Black Diamond Conference cellar after avoiding it last year with a win over Hamilton County.  The Falcons head coaching carousel spins again as Mike McElroy takes over.  McElroy was a member of the SIU Football team and at age 24 is the youngest coach in the region.  He looks to improve on a program that has only produced four wins in the last seven years.  How bad was the coaching carousel at E-T?  The IHSA doesn’t even have a listing of the last two coaches names.  In case you wondered, it was Jim Hammers (2011 Season,  2-7) and then Zach Schumacher (2012 Season, 1-8) .  No coaching assistants were on staff after Schumacher left.  The assistants are filled by SIU players and friends with John Goode as co-offensive coordinator (SIU fullback), Connor James is coaching the defense (SIU inside linebacker), Nick Pettit and Colton Meyers is coaching the offensive and defensive lines as Stephen Putbrese is coaching the wife receivers and defensive backs.

Lack of healthy players at the end of the long season, usually after a good deal of blowouts has been a long time concern for Elverado-Trico.  McElroy will work to get buy-in from his players and look to improve conditioning.

Black Diamond Conference Outlook

It is hard to tell what the E-T Coop has from year to year. If the Falcons didn’t have to forfeit their first game of the season to CZR last year they might have ended with two wins. New coaches bring enthusiasm back to Elkville but the will those players stay healthy and on the field?
